Internationalization at home - COIL

It is a consensus that international experience is an element of profound transformation in academic career, it allows the student and the professor to connect with new cultural and academic realities, which enriches their professional life and above all personal, transforming existential paradigms and a new dimension to intercultural understanding and the appreciation of knowledge. Difficulties in the financial and legal area are shown as barriers to achieve mobility. In this scenario, a new concept of internationalization has become popular among universities: internationalization at home. It consists of promoting international actions, through contact, discussion and sharing of information with people linked to educational institutions around the globe, using the Internet and its technologies. The methodology consists in connecting people through an online platform (and social networks) whose affinity for research, projects and interests in their various areas of activity are mixed.

Justification: Facing the possibilities of internationalization that online interaction can provide the students, professors and university employees, the International and Interinstitutional Relations Office seeks the promotion of partnerships to undertake this new process in Unioeste, considering that "internationalization is not a department, but a behavior". Among the initiatives which have become popular in the international academic community COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) is one of the most profitable. Among some platforms of proposal to this extension project is: Uni-Collaboration (https://uni-collaboration.eu).

Methodology: The theoretical and methodological assumptions which were bases of the execution of activities to be developed, consist of using free and available platforms in network, as well as the physical and technological structure available in Unioeste to carry out a more effective integration of telecolaboration in university institutions, identifying and overcoming barriers to the creation and execution of online exchanges, and supporting the academic recognition of such efforts. The importance of the present project is in the engagement of professors linked to international projects, aiming to enable the participation of interested in projects beyond the national border.

Goal: to raise awareness about the advantages of telecolaboration as a tool for virtual mobility in foreign language education among students, professors, international relations coordinators and Unioeste professionals.

Specific goals:

a) To extend the enriching benefits of international education to a wider audience of students and staff from Unioeste.

b) To encourage and support the development of courses which incorporate international collaboration, with integrated online work as one of its pillars and goals;

c) To develop a network of Unioeste professors, managers, employees and students from foreign universities who are committed to international education and to hold annual conferences in which ideas and experiences can be shared.

d) To meet the international market demand for opportunities in Unioeste, by locating, contacting and developing international partners interested in collaborating with the structuring of international projects online;

e) To educate members of the initiative and colleagues to develop hybrid learning models by sharing among the university virtual and physical campi.

f) To demonstrate and promote models of online courses, projects and International research online, by offering spaces for meetings, internet pages and presentations through video conferences and online platforms.

g) To encourage funding sources which can support the creation and development of international, online and innovative courses; degree programs, training and professional development, as well as learning for life, and thus promote the sustainability of the project, raising the collectivity culture, fostering the training, entrepreneurship and creativity inherent in the academic community.

Expected results:

a) Transversal maximization of interinstitutional and international cooperation at all levels, through undergraduate and postgraduate programs, research, innovation and extension;

b) ARI mission: to establish the basis for consolidation of an institutionalized strategy, regardless of management, aiming at maximizing organizational interests in interinstitutional and International Relations;

c) Stimulation of interinstitutional and international cooperation among the different levels of the University;

d) Articulation with the different related bodies in order to promote a multicultural environment in the University as a whole;

e) Spread the Institution abroad in order to recruit students and researchers, broadening our institutional reputation;

f) Articulation of extension courses and teaching in foreign languages;

g) Improvement of the experiences of interinstitutional and international cooperation, reverberating the Unioeste in the world.
